Generation UCAN

We are extremely excited to announce that we are now ambassadors for Generation UCAN! Last year I was introduced to UCAN by my parents while preparing for a race and it was seriously a game changer. I have struggled for years trying to find the right thing to eat before working out. I cannot workout on an empty stomach but I also hate to run, bike, swim, or lift on a full stomach and I struggled to find a happy medium. For early morning workouts sometimes I would just have a piece of toast and a banana and more times than not I felt too heavy while working out but there were times where I was still hungry.

For afternoon workouts I would try to time it right where I would workout about 1-2 hours after lunch and sometimes it worked great and other times I was too full. Other times I got hungry right as I started to work out because I told myself not to eat too much food at lunch or I would be too full.... so that backfired on me. Needless to say it has been a struggle with finding the right thing to eat. It is definitely possible I have just struggled with it. That's where UCAN came in. First of all UCAN is to be taken about half hour before a workout, this worked great for me because it was something I could consume before I worked out without feeling super full and one scoop has been enough for me to get through swimming, biking or running. For my morning workouts I just drink one scoop when I wake up and BAM I'm ready for my workout and I feel great throughout the whole thing. Afternoons I do the same thing, about an hour or two after lunch I drink my UCAN and I feel great!

What sets UCAN apart is the SuperStarch. The following is taken straight from their website.

Generation UCAN is powered by SuperStarch, a healthy, natural, gluten-free innovation in carbohydrate nutrition. SuperStarch is a complex carbohydrate (derived from non-GMO corn) that uniquely stabilizes blood sugar and causes virtually no reaction from the fat-storage hormone insulin. It's backed by proven science. Finally there's a healthier, more efficient energy source than sugars, caffeine, or high-carb meals. Originally discovered for children with life-threatening energy imbalances, SuperStarch is a revolutionary fuel being used for ENERGYSPORTS, and FITNESS.

Complex carbohydrates are important in nutrition and exercise, simple sugars will sky rocket your blood sugar and then it will come crashing right down. It will also elevate insulin levels which will inhibit our bodies from burning the fat that we are trying to lose.
It really is what it says it is, there is no crash, no insulin spike, it allows fat burn and it is easy on the stomach as the SuperStarch is slowly digested.
Being easy on the stomach is a huge benefit especially for Kassia, she has a weird stomach and a lot of things really upset it (she is lactose intolerant..... yet she always wants to eat ice cream haha) and that can lead to some not so fun times in the bathroom haha, but seriously this has helped alleviate her of those problems. Everyone who has trained for a race knows that stomach problems can KILL a workout or a race, last year I had some nasty stomach problems halfway through a half marathon and I thought I was going to die but I didn't want to take the time to use the Honey Buckets along the race course. I was able to get through it but I paid for it afterwards. I'm not trying to be too graphic, I'm just saying that UCAN has really helped fix those problems for us.

There are a few different flavors you can choose from; tropical orange, lemonade, cran raspberry and pomegranate blueberry. Our favorites are lemonade and tropical orange! They also have chocolate and vanilla cream which have whey isolate protein in them and electrolytes, these are great for post workout recovery.

If you haven't given UCAN a try I really encourage you to try it, like I said it has really been a game changer for our triathlon training.  They are also launching a UCAN snack bar made with the same SuperStarch with the same benefits as the drink. They also have another drink called UCAN hydrate which has zero calories, zero sugar and 5 electrolytes. We haven't tried the snack bar or the electrolyte drink but ours are in the mail and we will keep you posted on how they are. Feel free to ask us any questions or tips about UCAN we would be happy to answer them!
